‘Maryada Ramanna’ Is Copy So What?

The recent release ‘Maryada Ramanna’ was a decent success and since it came from the camp of the tough taskmaster S S Rajamouli, everyone expected it to be a original script. However, it was revealed instantly that the film was a remake of a very old Hollywood movie ‘Our Hospitality’.

Recently, another update has come that the remake rights were sold into Tamil for 35 lakhs and criticism was making rounds. But what needs to be seen is how well Rajamouli has adapted the story and the way he has brought in the nativity with his own creativity.

Though it is technically deemed as a copy, it should not be treated as a copy given the factors combined with it, say industry sources. While the theme may have been lifted, what is important is the way it could connect to different genres of audience with a nativity factor. Hence, despite knowing that the film was made by getting inspiration from ‘Our Hospitality, the buyers have bagged Tamil rights at such whopping sum.
