O Maramanishi
Artist(s): SP. Balasubramaniam, Khatijia Rahman, D. SrinivasLyricist: Suddala Ashok Teja
This is a mild song which has got fast beats in the backdrop but one gets reminded of the retro specialists ‘The Man Machine’ when they listen to this song. The feel of the song is rather melancholic and the lyrics have been adjusted accordingly without any complication. It is not a melody but more like an intro song so not much for the listeners to sit back and enjoy. The lyric has got great depth and Balu’s voice brought life for that.
Neelo Valapu
Artist(s): Vijay Prakash, Shreya GhoshalLyricist: Vanamali
This is a romantic duet and the melody quotient is high on this. The song is dominated by vocals as the music takes a backseat. The combination of Scottish and Russian tunes is a good mix and the energy levels are high. The tunes are a bit scientific with terms like electron, neutron, oxygen used but overall, this is a feel good song. Vanamali scored good marks by placing sensible words on the track maintaining the nativity.
Inumulo O Hridayam
Artist(s): AR. Rahman, Kash N Krissy, SuzanneLyricist: Suddala Ashok Teja
A peppy song, this is mixed with techno beats and funky tones. However, the feel of the 90s disco is felt in this and the vocals are quite distinct giving it a good elevation. Not much variety in the music but the lyrics have been woven intelligently to give the correct essence. This is more of a situational song so imagination cannot be used here. The pace is decent. Suddala penned sensibly to the track and also tried to bring the sense on original Tamil lyric penned by Vairamuthu.
Chitti Dance Showcase
Artist(s): Pradeep Vijay, Pravin Mani, Yogi BThis is more of an instrumental number and the vocals provide the chorus. The music is haphazard and there is inconsistency which can be justified only by an apt picturization of the song. The use of electric guitar and bass drums is high on this one.
Harima Harima
Artist(s): Hariharan, Sadhana SargamLyricist: Vanamali
The feel is missing in the song and it is more of lines being spoken than sung. However, the music is loud and it attempts to cover up the vocals. The pitch is high in this one and the lyrics give a royal picture of the protagonist. The pace is smooth but due to the varied beats, it could be more of a visual treat but not much of a melodious number.
Kilimanjaro
Artist(s): Javed Ali, ChinmayeeLyricist: Bhuvana Chandra
There is an African feel in this song and even the beats remind us of the tribal folklore tunes of the dark continent. The duet is very energetic and the vocals share a good chemistry. The icing on the cake is the lyrics which were impressive with good rhythm that syncs with the music. The Rahman flavor is seen in this one and it is better than the other numbers. Bhuvanachandra scored full marks for writing peppy words to this track.
Boom Boom Robo Ra
Artist(s): Yogi B, Kirthi Sagathia, Swetha Mohan, Tanvi ShahLyricist: Bhuvana Chandra
A dance song of sorts, this has got a mix of the western music along with the traditional beats. There is a discontinuity in the vocals and it looks like parts have been attached together. The music is peppy and though the pace is mild, the words were filled with good punch and gave the song a good flavor. The opening note reminds us of Michael Jackson’s ‘Jam’ numbers.
Overall, the album with gen-next tunes runs on techno and trance beats due to which the melody or soothing effect of Rahman is not found. This is justified given the fact that most of the songs are about the machine than feelings or mushy romances. One has to listen to it few times before getting into the groove. Perhaps adding a soft melody or a deep blue romantic song would have made the difference.
