Beach Boys are fine with Katy Perry's record

The Beach Boys have revealed that it was not their idea to take a legal action over Katy Perry’s hit single ‘California Gurls’. Executives at the band's Rondor Music record label served Perry's Capitol Records bosses with a legal notice, claiming a line in Snoop Dogg's rap infringes copyright of the band's 1965 hit California Girls.

The lyric, ‘I wish they all could be California Girls’, was reportedly removed from Perry's song following the complaint, which demanded a writing credit for original Beach Boys Mike Love and Brian Wilson.

Reps for the pair have now spoken out about the legal tussle, insisting they did not encourage their record label bosses to take action.

"Rondor owns the track and called Brian and Mike, saying they were going to complain. Brian likes Katy's record and doesn't know where the situation stands," the Daily Express quoted a spokesperson for Wilson as telling the New York Post. Love's rep added: "Mike and Brian wrote the song... but any legal action is up to Rondor." (ANI)
