Roasiah’s Master Plan With ‘Election Code’

The sudden announcement of schedule for the by-elections in Telangana came as a surprise to many, but inquires revealed that it was Chief Minister K Rosaiah who played a key role in the Election Commission’s decision.

The chief minster was supposed to visit Nizamabad district to take up various welfare and developmental programmes in a bid to woo the electorate. However, intelligence authorities reportedly told Rosaiah that there might be a major violence if he goes to Nizamabad because of threats from the Telangana students and Joint Action Committee.

Rosaiah wanted to drop, but that would mean a loss of face for him as he had scheduled the programme well in advance. So, Rosaiah had this plan. He met Governor ESL Narasimhan and explained the factual position. And based on his advice, the Governor sent a message to the Election Commission and got the by-poll schedule announced by evening. And since the model code came into force, Rosaiah’s programme had automatically been called off.
