The love of skin color is a hardcore feeling for many across the world. For foreigners, getting tanned is their biggest craze and eight out of ten foreign girls believe that having a black boyfriend is a pride.
On the contrast, things are different here. It appears that there is a lot of craze and respect for those with fair skin. One can see the kind of attention and importance the foreigners get when they are here. Now, going a level deeper, even our film fraternity seems to have a strong liking for color. For instance, the Tollywood circuit has got a special fascination for white skinned actresses.
During the black and white era, not many things like this mattered but lately, a huge preference is being given to actresses with fair skin. While on one end, girls like Hansika, Tamannah, Kajal Agarwal, Charmee, Navneet Kaur and the latest sensation Madhurima have a strong following among the movie makers, some naturally genuine beauties like Madhu Shalini, Suhasini and others are often given less consideration. A classic example is the heroines of the film ‘Leader’. While the fair skinned Richa has become a hot bird in the circuit, the other girl Priya who is arguably more talented and photogenic is yet to hit that kind of limelight. So what is it that makes Tollywood run for fair skins.
A noted producer says that masses tend to have a fascination for white skinned girls and they consider it to be a symbol of beauty and class. As it is, the Indian mentality to look fair is a thing from centuries so naturally, those with fair skin tend to score higher marks than others in looks department. Some also say that the visual appeal of fair skinned heroines is much stronger than dusky ones so as a viewer, it is pleasing to see a fair skinned beauty than a dusky beauty on the big screen.
Though there are exceptions like Ileana, Padmapriya, Udayabhanu who have got a crazy following, overall, it is always the white skin that scores better than the rest of the beauties.
