Shoaib may be arrested at any time

The threat of arrest looms large on Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik in connection with the case filed against him by Ayesha Siddiqui, who claimed to be his first wife.

Hyderabad police commissioner A K Khan told the media that one could not rule out the possibility of arrests during the course of investigation. The police might examine Shoaib to check the veracity of some of the assertions made by the complainant.

“If it becomes necessary to arrest somebody we will arrest but it will be based on how the case evolves and what sort of evidences we come across during the investigations,” Khan said.

He said Shoaib’s passport had been seized to check the veracity of the claims made by Ayesha in her complaint. The police have informed the court that it required his passport for investigations.

Stating that the government had been informed of the criminal case booked against Shoaib, he said the government would deal with in the manner it deems fit.
