Britney will ring in the New Year in Kerala

Pop sensation Britney Spears will spend the last two nights of 2009 on a luxury houseboat in the backwaters of God’s Own Country.

She will spend a day and two nights on a specially equipped houseboat that will float on the placid waters of Kumarakom. "She likes India, and Kerala is a new-found love for her. She will be accompanied by a friend. She will ring in the New Year while on the cruise," said a source who is aware of the preparations.

Britney’s holiday organizer, a leisure water tourism player based in Allapuzha, has been asked to keep mum about her Kerala tour. "She is very particular about privacy during her holidays. She wants no media, no public glare. She wants to be with herself in a serene, romantic environment," said the source.

After her holidays, Spears will shoot for her new album in various locations in Kerala. The Kathakali dance and a herd of temple elephants are expected to be part of her new album.

The US born Spears is a songwriter, producer, dancer, actress and entertainer. She has sold around 100 million records of her albums across the world so far. Spears was ranked the 13th most powerful celebrity and second highest earning young musician of 2009 by Forbes. She has reported earnings of over $35 million dollars in the year. Tempers Rising Over Adhurs Release

The film ‘Adhurs’ was meant to be the most talked about movie of the season and it was originally slated to be a Christmas release. However, the outrageous attacks by the Telangana activists have caused lot of mayhem and this has disrupted the entire flow of the films for the season.

Now, there is news that many film buffs in different parts of the state including Telangana region are irked up with the whole thing and are waiting to see when ‘Adhurs’ will release. Even NTR jr is said to be upset about the issue since nothing is being known for sure.

Huge money is at stake for the distributors and many are hoping that the film should release before January 7th. The makers are said to be urging the government to take strong measures against the TRS goons over these mindless acts as this is leading to huge losses everywhere.

According to industry information, arrangements have been made to release the film with more than 900 prints 200 more than ‘Magadheera.’ Sources said the distributors have put in huge money on ‘Adhurs’ expecting huge returns during the festival season.

While Magadheera was reported to have been sold out for Rs 1.5 crore in Krishna district and Rs 2.1 crore in Guntur, Adhurs went for Rs 1.8 crore in Krishna and Rs 2.3 crore in Guntur districts.

The distributors are very worried with the continued postponement of the film release as stakes are high. Their main worry is the impending losses if the film is not released before the festive season, said former Film Censor Board member Jonnalagadda Ramchandra Sastry.

Kirsten’s Spider Man character to be killed?

Hollywood actress Kirsten Dunst’s red headed character Mary Jane from the Spider Man franchise is reportedly going to be written off after the fourth installment.

 
Insiders claim Dunst’s character will be written off in the next movie and replaced by Anne Hathaway as Spider Man’s new love interest. The plan is for her character to be written out, probably by dying. Anne will take over as Peter Parker’s new love interest for this project and for Spider Man 5 and 6 which are being written now, said a source.
 
"Anne’s in Los Angeles doing a lot of meetings on the movie, because filming is right around the corner," the source added.

Accident will show another side of me

Bollywood beauty Celina Jaitley who made her film debut in 2001, says her fans will see another side of her in upcoming film Accident on Hill Road.
 
"I can confidently say that whatever people have seen of me so far, they would see the other side of me in this movie," Jaitley told PTI. The actress believes that it her best performance as yet. "I think it has taken five years for me to grow as an actor. It was all about going for the right script. I never went for banners per se," she said.
 
The former Miss India, who debuted in Feroz Khan’s Janasheen opposite his son Fardeen, proved her acting skills in movies like No Entry, Tom Dick and Harry, Golmaal Returns and Paying Guests.
 
Accident on Hill Road, directed by Mahesh Nair, will release on December 31. The Nair’s directional debut is a drunken driver’s hit-and-run tale, that besides Jaitley, stars Abhimanyu Singh and Farooque Shaikh. The movie shows how Shaikh and Jaitley cross path after a road accident.
 
What happens thereafter forms the crux of the film. Jaitley, born in Kabul to a Punjabi father and an Afghan mother, said she was groomed to be a soldier as she comes from an army background. Her father, V K Jaitley, is a retired Colonel and her mother, Meeta, an Afghan Hindu, was a nurse in the Indian Army. "I was groomed to be a soldier but we plan something and something else happens," she said.

AP Governor Tiwari with Sex Scandal

Just like his government, Andhra Pradesh Governor N D Tiwari is also in the eye of a storm. An expose allegedly showing Tiwari in a compromising position with girls at Raj Bhavan has raised a stink, with opposition parties demanding he be immediately sacked.

Women groups are now demanding Governor Narayan Dutt Tiwari’s ouster from Raj Bhavan in Hyderabad. This after a private Telugu channel aired photographs that allegedly showed Tiwari in a compromising position with several girls, who the channel claimed worked at Raj Bhavan.

After a Public Interest Litigation (PIL), the Andhra Pradesh High court asked the channel to stop telecast of the visuals. Raj Bhavan said the TV programme was ’fabricated, false and malicious’, aimed at tarnishing the image of the Governor.

"He degraded it. It is not we. It is the Governor who has to answer for being involved in such acts," said A Radhakrishna, Editor, Andhra Jyoti.

The Opposition has demanded that Tiwari be sacked.

Today what they have shown is very bad and everybody should be ashamed of it. I demand that immediately the Governor should resign or otherwise the Government of India should sack him, said Chandrababu Naidu, Leader of the Opposition.
 
The government was reluctant to react. When NDTV asked Andhra Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy about the icnident she slammed the door of her car. The expose comes at a time when there is speculation on whether the state will come under President’s rule and on whether a new incumbent will occupy Raj Bhavan.

Aamir Khan who is known for his exceptionally different and strong movies has now come back after the brawny ‘Ghajini’. This time, he becomes a thin and lanky student for this film and given the hype it generated, this looked promising. Was it really so? Let us see.

Story:

Farhan (Madhavan) and Raju (Sharman) are room mates in an engineering college and they join with lot of inhibitions and blocks. Their life takes a turn with the arrival of Rancho (Aamir), the other roommate and in no time, they begin to see things with a different approach which is more sensible and straight from the heart. However, Rancho disappears by straightening their lives out. Where does he go? What happened to him? Farhan and Raju set on a journey to locate Rancho. Whether they are successful or not and why they adore him so much forms the rest of the story.

Performances: Aamir Khan

Yet another applauding performance from him, the shocking wonder is how he managed to look so skinny and grungy like a typical student from a hard hitting killing machine built with mass in ‘Ghajini’. Aamir infused life into the character and strikes a chord with the hearts of the audience.

Madhavan:

Though his role is passive, he has got his own strong moments that cannot be ignored. He is equally competent and shines wherever required.

Sharman Joshi:

He is the apt choice for this role and does full justice to it leaving no element of doubt. His expressions and body language are perfect while his timing of comedy is good.

Boman Irani:

An intense and really captivating performance from him once again. His scenes with Aamir are brilliant and emotional. One can easily recollect the professors of their colleges by looking at Boman.

Kareena Kapoor:

Though her role was not that special, Kareena gave enough to make her presence felt on the screen. She looks gorgeous as usual and delivers another lip lock sequence. Her presence on the screen is limited though.

Others:

Omi was brilliant, Parikshit Sahani was neat, Jaaved Jaffery was brief but good, Akhil Mishra was apt, Mona Singh was sweet, Rahul Kumar was impressive, the others contributed in the right manner and added value to the film.

Analysis:

This is without doubt a trip down the memory lane for those who left the campus many years ago and for those who are currently in the colleges, it will work as an adrenaline pumper- the elements of friendship, the pranks at the hostel premises, the romance aspects, all work well for the film. The director has come up with a concept that has a universal appeal and both the narrative and presentation was top notch. Dialogues were filled with sufficient humor and sentiment.

The script was tied tightly and there were no loose ends. Screenplay was the major hero and that captures the journey very well. Background score works its magic while two songs were worth taking home. Cinematography was masterly, editing was crisp. Costumes were natural and the art department was quite realistic. There are no fights in the film. Here are few reasons why you should watch the film.

    * The scene where Chatur delivers a speech in Hindi using the word ‘Balatkaar’
    * The presence of mind that Rancho shows when they submit the exam paper late
    * The interview scene of Raju
    * When Farhan tries to convince his father for what he wants to do
    * The climax scenes 

Overall, the film has got many unforgettable scenes which send the audience into rips of laughter and the first half simply flows without a problem. It is the second half that slacks down in speed and gets dragged a bit but then it picks up eventually. This has got super hit written all over it and will shine well at the box office.

This is released amidst all chaos of Andhra Telangana issue. Audiences have come to watch the movie to take a break from political cacophony that has been shaking TV channels from many days. And much to the delight today is Christmas and the T-activists have called off bandh today on this occasion. Let us see how it faired.

Story:

Vamsi aka Pawan Kalyan (Vaibhav) comes to Hyderabad on a mission and he happens to meet Mahesh Babu (Brahmanandam) who is there with an operation against goondaism. Vamsi and Mahesh Babu develop tiffs with local goondas like Mallesh, Saleem and Allauddin.

But Vamsi has a flash back that gets revealed slowly. His love interest Krishna Veni (Sweta) works as Radio Jockey in Radio Mirchi and a series of incidents connect him to these goondas.

What are those incidents? What happens at last? That has to be watched on screen.

Performances:

Vaibhav is ok but still he lacks something. That is originality. Unknowingly he is getting into the influence of Prabhas, Pawan Kalyan and sometimes Chiranjeevi. He needs to improve his dialogue delivery for the kind of mass roles he is playing.

Sweta Basu is good. She became a visual treat for many and she is the only pulling factor to some extent. Brahmanandam could bring some smiles in the role of Mahesh Babu but still there was lot to improve where director failed.

Others are ok in their shoes. Pradeep Rawat appeared in second half and portrayed villainy up to requirement. Jaya Prakash Reddy brought enough humor. MS Narayana is ok in guest appearance. Arundhati Aravind appeared in a single shot. Chalapathi Rao and others are ok.

Technically, the film failed in music. Except the last song ‘Ammayi peru Krishna veni…’ nothing enticed masses. Production values are good but narration part sounded obsolete.

Analysis:

It’s a film made with an intention to lure masses. Attempt is ok but the content is weak. The age old line is taken and not tried to present it fashionably. Care should have taken in the matter of songs at least. The effort to end the film as non stop entertainer like ‘Ready’ is observed, but things didn’t materialize. More homework would have saved the movie.

The concept with characters Mahesh Babu and Pawan Kalyan is interesting but not convincing enough to express with big laughs. First half and second half go very predictable. There is nothing that keeps audiences glued to seats once suspense opens in interval.

On a whole, it is a normal treat.

Celina Jaitley's bed scene hits Censor hurdle

Stretching close to two minutes, the steamy lovemaking scene between Celina Jaitley and co-star Abhimanyu Singh in the upcoming movie Accident On Hill Road has hit a hurdle at Censor Board.

The movie, slated to release on December 31, has been given an ‘A’ (Adults Only) certificate and director Mahesh Nair has been asked to chop the 1 minute 50 secs long lovemaking scene which the filmmaker says is crucial to the film’s plot.

In the scene, Abhimanyu takes Celina to bed, removes her stockings and caresses her for a good one minute before making love to her. Nair says the scene is important to establish the smouldering chemistry between the two characters.

The Censor Board, however, has raised three objections: 1. Abhimanyu removing Celina’s stockings. 2. Too much fondling and canoodling between the two. 3. The length of the love scene.

But Mahesh Nair is crying fowl and accusing the Board of bias. He says that many other films featuring kisses, smooches and gory violence have been cleared by the Censor but the board is coming too hard on his film even though it doesn’t have a lip lock between Celina and Abhimanyu.

Well, that’s how the cookie crumbles in B town.

Avatar Collections Beat Ghajini In India?

The latest mania that has gripped the entire movie buff circuit is the Hollywood flick ‘Avatar’. Not just in the original English version, reports have been arriving that the film has been recording some thumping collections across the box office centers in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

For the record, the film has collected a whopping Rs 6.75 crores right on the first day of its release and that too, these figures are just for the English version only. The collections of the first week and the first month will scale new records, say the trade pundits from various corners.

The prediction is that ‘Avatar’ will cross the 200 plus crores mark that the Hindi blockbuster ‘Ghajini’ has recorded. Many say that the title has got a strong appeal and it is the wonderful movie expertise that has been drawing a lot of attention from the audience.

Arundathi Malayalam version for Sankranthi

Anushka Sonu Sood starrer ‘Arundhati’ turned out to be a blockbuster hit of 2009. This film is Directed by Kodi Ramakrishna and produced by Shyam Prasad Reddy. The film mesmerized the audience with its visual effects. The film was later dubbed in Tamil as well and it did good business in Tamil Nadu as well.
