In spite of strong competition from the likes of RAB NE BANA DI JODI and GHAJINI, it is ROCK ON that has come out trumps in the FILMFARE awards which were held on the Saturday gone by. It has led the pack with as many as 7 trophies though JODHAA AKBAR has followed closely with 5 awards.
However, if one looks at the top honors, they have all gone to the Ashutosh Gowariker film since it has bagged not just the BEST FILM award but also the BEST DIRECTOR award. In fact it’s a clean sweep of sorts at the top because the movie also fetched Hrithik Roshan yet another award for the BEST ACTOR. It’s a surprise though since he was facing tough competition from the likes of Naseeruddin Shah (A WEDNESDAY) and Shah Rukh Khan (RAB NE BANA DI JODI).
Some of the other awards bagged by JODHAA AKBAR were for BEST LYRICS (Javed Akhtar Jashn E Bahara) and BEST BACKGROUND SCORE (A.R. Rahman).
Coming to ROCK ON, the film fetched Shahana Goswami a jury award for the BEST ACTRESS. There was a special jury mention for Purab Kohli for the same film. The biggest cheer came when Arjun Rampal’s name was announced as a BEST ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ACTOR (MALE). Abhishek Kapoor went home with a trophy for BEST STORY while Jason West did the technical crew proud with an award for BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY. Vinod Subramanyam was another in line for technical finesse as he bagged one for BEST SOUND DESIGN.
To add to this, if one adds Farhan Akhtar’s trophy for the BEST SENSATIONAL DEBUTANT (MALE) then it well makes it 7 for ROCK ON.
